A passion as a business

When I was a child (quite some time ago), I used to get on the bus and take my mongrel dog, a bag of purse nets, a spade, and an old cotton money bag with my ferret in it down to some wasteland at the side of the River Don. I had a wonderful time and at the the end of my day I would take the journey back home with my catch legged onto my spade (all paunched and in pristine condition).

If I was lucky, I could cash in a couple of rabbits on the bus trip. The old boys would soon strike up conversation with me and the bus would be full of smiling faces looking at my marvel. Could you imagine the response now of a nine-year-old travelling through Doncaster on the bus loaded up with ferreting gear and a good catch of rabbits?

Fast forward twenty-five years, I became a married man with two small children and a good wife, still obsessed with catching rabbits. We had an old series three Land Rover and I was that busy looking at the rabbits over the fields that I clipped the grass verge! Carol shouted to our two sons “make sure you’ve got them seatbelts on; your dad has RABBIT FEVER!” And that is just how my obsession with catching rabbits grew into my living.

Another twenty-five years brings us up to present day. My children are grown and fledged and I’m still obsessed with catching rabbits as much as I was when I was nine.
